Bitching about Final Cut Pro!!! -Zooming straight to hell!

Why the hell did they (apple final Cut Pro developers) think that the command to zoom into the timeline would be the same for zooming into the edit window? I can't tell you how manny times I have tried to blow up my timeline and instead zoom in on the eyeball of the person in my edit window because it didn't click in the right place! it makes me insane. Also, it makes me nuts when I zoom in on the timeline and instead of going to where my cursor is, it jumps to a highlighted clip. Maybe I'm just used to the restrictive style of avid (i will be bitching about avid also, to be sure)!

Don't get me started on zooming in FCP.

I came from Sony Vegas and, although it's not in the same league as FCP in terms of professionalism, it kicks the ass out of FCP in terms of zooming the time line. Scroll wheel up and down = zoom in and out.

Super quick, simple and it works wherever you are in the window.

I think there is a separate timeline zoom command. I'm not in front of an FCP system right now, so I'm not %100 certain, but I believe (opt)+ and (opt)- only zoom in the timeline, while (cmd)+ and (cmd)- are the general window-zoom buttons. And, natch, you can map these to whatever you like, including the scrollwheel if your mouse has one.

While all NLE's have much in common, their UI's are all idiosyncratic enough that its never fun to switch from one system to another. (Try editing avid by day, fcp by night!)

Think of them as instruments. There's nothing unusual in a musician that plays both trumpet and trombone, but I doubt s/he has much of an issue with the different fingerings.
